Utrecht is the fourth largest city in the Netherlands and serves as the capital of the Utrecht province in the centre of the country around 25 minutes south of Amsterdam. The university set us up with such stellar accommodation, while our classmates had proper student flats in the center of town we were in the outskirts, the senior citizen residential area if you will. You're surrounded by piles of sand, concrete, more dust, and speeding cars and bikes. If you want to experience an authentic, genuine Dutch city, head over to Utrecht. Not sure how I felt about that one. The station was decorated with memorabilia for le Tour de France, and some people were handing out flags for it. Who cares about the room, look at where you live!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! In the meantime, you get a mini-fridge that isn't quite cold enough to store food safely. I don't come here all that often but I'm pleasantly surprised by how the station is shaping up and hopefully the construction will be over soon!! By the way, for those booking in 2017: there is major construction taking place on 2 sides of the building and a highway on the 3rd. Utrecht is awesome because it embodies the European café and restaurant terrace culture. Haven't been able to check out all the options, let alone try any but I'm definitely excited! The construction is ongoing but you can now get an idea if how the station is going to look when it's done. The carpet in my room was packed with dirt, dust, and dozens of stains.
The furniture had chips and cracks, and it was covered in a visible layer of dust, too. I went with just a suitcase, pack, laptop and my best friend Megan. As well as the new additions, old favourites like Starbucks and Rituals remain. Will probably stay here agin, even though the beds are a bit hard. Been using this station to commute regularly between Amsterdam and Zeist. All in all much better than the average travelodge! Here you can see the space between the two buildings. My feeling is: this place is losing money and trying to pinch pennies everywhere it can except Wifi; Wifi is free here and everywhere in Utrecht. I am very impressed with the remodel! This was not the case before. We took a guided tour inside, but seeing as we were banned from taking photos, I cant show you anything! This is a great alternative to the Central Station in Amsterdam.

Utrecht is a slice of bohemia, a haven for everyone and anyone that wants to call her home- free thinkers, philosophers, wanderers, conservatives, and entrepreneurs. For , it might be worth visiting Utrecht to see what true happiness looks like. The station hall is really big, with a very high ceiling so even when it's really busy it doesn't feel too crowded. Hoog Catharijne serves as a litmus test as to whether or not you are a genuine Utrechtser. Utrecht thrives not only in the aesthetic beauty of its canals and stately buildings, but also in her artists, poets, musicians, writers and anyone else who possess an artistic spirit. All in all much better than the average travelodge! The service was everything you would expect and the price was surprisingly cheap, only costing £50 a night if booked 3 weeks ahead. This place has been mostly fully remodeled and looks amazing! The Netherlands is cycling mad, and we passed several groups of cyclists during our trip from Helmond to Utrecht. Utrecht provides all the big city amenities while still maintaining a provincial, small town vibe. In what appears to be a democratic process of voting, the canals of Utrecht have won the hearts of voters around the world. What did they do when they cleaned? I came during the Tour de France start, so it's Possible that it's busier than usual, so take it with a grain of salt, but here was my take: The place was Extremely crowded. I used to go through this station daily back in early 2000 and it was a bit of a mess before.
