The 6146 is much lower in transconductance and is less sensitive to drive signal, thus needs a bigger voltage swing to drive than a 6550. Of course, those made an already wicked heavy amp feel as though you were dragging anchors behind it. The V2 is 60 watts. I have seen many studio and practice photos of the Stones, and have never seen an Ampeg combo amp in site, except for Bill Wyman playing through one during a practice session. Along with the Jet and Gemini amp models, Ampeg competed neck-in-neck with Fender in the early 60s, but despite these great products, the original owner of Ampeg, Everett Hull, had a strong aversion to rock'n'roll music and treated it as a passing fad. Between 1966 to 1967 Ampeg made approximately 100 of these basses, 25 of which were fretless. This thing is super clean. I've been using them almost exclusively since 1977. The power section is tube-driven solid state with a toroidal transformer that generates less noise and magnetic interference. Instead of rack pres based on the fender dual showman--alembic, kern, demeter, etc--why not make a rack mount b15 preamp? This one is in generally excellent condition and it's all original with the exception of one knob.
